IPH conference hears that three-quarters of post-primary schools have one or more fast food outlets within one kilometre of them

A conference hosted by the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) will hear today (Tuesday, 13 October 2015) that the stigma associated with attending childhood obesity treatment programmes needs to be tackled to improve uptake of such programmes.

Open ​Access Resources for Public Health

We would like to invite you to our Open Access seminar organised as part of the Annual International Open Access Week. Open Access Week will take place from 19 -25 October 2015. As part of this global event the Institute of Public Health in Ireland (IPH) and RIAN are hosting their Open Access Resources for Public Health title seminar at The Spencer Hotel, Thursday, 22 October 2015.

SACN has said free sugars should account for no more than 5% of daily energy intake - the equivalent of seven level teaspoons.  The Committee said the move was needed to "help address the growing obesity and diabetes crises and to reduce the risk of tooth decay". 

The Committee advice is in line with new World Health Organization proposals.

According to existing research, all age groups in the UK consume at least twice this limit.

In May IPH submitted a written response to a request from the Northern Ireland Committee for Regional Development for evidence for the need for legislation to introduce a 20mph speed limit on residential roads. This was followed up by oral evidence given by IPH and a number of other interested parties to the Committee on 17 June. A number of points highlighted by IPH included:
