Belfast scoops national award for sustainable food

On 22 March 2016, Elizabeth Mitchell, IPH Chief Executive, as Chair of the Belfast Food Network, accepted a prestigious Sustainable Food Cities award which recognises the work  of the Network to address issues including obesity and diet-related ill-health to climate change and biodiversity loss to declining prosperity and social inequalities.

Dr Mitchell, commended the collaborative nature of the Network’s achievements, “In the last two years, we’ve worked with more than thirty partners across all sectors. The variety of their achievements is remarkable – supporting the growth of a vibrant, diverse food economy; promoting healthy and sustainable food; developing responses to food poverty; building community food skills and reducing food waste. Our award places us among the country’s leading food cities, a true reflection of our partners’ work.”
