Government Department information seminars

A series of HIA training seminars were delivered to over 90 senior government officials in Northern Ireland during May, June and November 2006.   The seminars:

  • give the broad policy context for HIA
  • provided information on HIA -  the concept, rationale, practical implementation and expected outcomes
  • promoted discussion and debate and provided opportunities to consider the issues involved in a HIA
  • will ensure government officials recognise how HIA may be incorporated into development of policy.

The Ministerial Group for Public Health has called for all Northern Ireland Government Departments to identify potential HIAs.

Similar training sessions were also delivered to all government departments in the Republic of Ireland during 2005.  Again over 60 Officers attended the sessions to develop an increased awareness of HIA.

The Institute seeks to work closely with all departments to build capacity for HIA.
